PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE (JAR) PPL AThe Private Pilot Licence (PPL) will be your first step into the exciting world of aviation allowing you to fly single engine aircraft under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) in European airspace. The training follows the JAR syllabus, which is governed in the UK by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The syllabus encompasses a minimum 45 hours flying training at least 10 of these must be solo. Starting with pre-flight preparation, ground handling, airport and traffic pattern operations, basic and advanced manoeuvre proficiency leading to your first solo circuit at about 15-20 hours, by which time you will need to have a Class 2 medical and have passed the Air Law exam. Then it is time to move on to navigation, landing away at airfields where you can experience short and grass field operations and cross-country flying. There are 7 ground exams (multiple choice) Air Law, Aircraft General, Navigation, Radiotelephony (RT), Meteorology Human Factors and Flight Performance and Planning. Also a practical Radiotelephony exam, and when all training and exams are complete a Skill test with a flight examiner who will test you on your general flying and navigational skills.
